Question 1: What is the most disappointing experience as a student?
I do not really recall anything as a disappointing experience as a student but I remember an event that was shocking more than disappointing. At the first day of my university life instructors gave us various different tasks to accomplish in a very short time in the studio (one project comes after the other one) and it was very frustrating! Most of us can not finish the projects and did not understand what was going on. At the end of the day, we learned that they were all 3rd and 4th year students, not the instructors! So, I, as a student, learned not to give up and have fun throughout the process of designing!
Question 2: As an academic, do you get the chance to sleep? (Does anything change?)
Well, yes, sometimes. 🙂 Concerns change but sleepless nights are still valid, but unfortunately my tolerance is not the same.
Question 3: What does design mean to you and currently, how do you perceive the world of design?
I believe design is everywhere so I try to approach every part of life from a designer’s point of view. Design is the execution of an idea in the real physical world. Concerns of the design world shifts from a pure creativity to an attempt to develop the life quality of a person today.
Question 4: If you had the chance, what would you change in your student life?
I would attend more workshops and competitions and try to learn more from my instructors…
I would like to thank you to Elif Erdemir Türkkan for her kindness, help and understanding. It is my pleasure to make a interview with you.
